Tom Wolfe is professor of jazz studies at The University of Alabama. He has performed and/or recorded with Danny Gottlieb, Lew Soloff, Gene Bertoncini, Lou Marini, Mundelle Lowe, Bill Goodwin, and many others. He’s toured the United States, El Salvador, France, Romania, and Cuba.  

Tom has scored arrangements for a wide variety of rock, jazz and big band ensembles. He’s written music for national ad campaigns, film scores and theatrical productions.

He began performing professionally at Kings Island theme park in Cincinnati, Ohio at age 17. As a student in Jazz Studies at Capital University he performed with artists Bob Hope, Englebert Humperdink, Chita Rivera, Jerry Van Dyke, and Rosemary Clooney.

He completed graduate studies at the Eastman School of Music in New York where he studied jazz arranging and composition with Rayburn Wright and Bill Dobbins, and guitar with Gene Bertoncini.  There he performed and studied with many jazz greats — Manny Albam, Rufus Reid, Lew Soloff, John LaBarbera, and others.

After Eastman Tom taught at colleges in Ohio and Louisiana, later becoming the University of Alabama School of Music’s Director of Jazz Studies.

His latest solo release, SOLEROVESCENT, is on Summit Records with Ken Watters on trumpet, Chris Kozak and Tim Goodwin on bass, and Danny Gottlieb on drums.
